Conduwuit (stylized conduwuit) was a Matrix implementation forked from Conduit made in the Rust programming language. As of April 2025, it has been discontinued[1] due to a variety of reasons. It is the fastest implementation without aggressive tuning.

However, it had many issues:

  • bad fork point
  • non-descriptive commits
  • bad development workflow
  • lack of code review
  • irresponsible security disclosures
  • bad moderation
    • allowing Jason Volk to exist
    • banning entire servers from the chat on the basis of disagreement
    • banning entire servers from the chat on the basis of running Grapevine
  • stealing code from Grapevine[2][3][4][5]
